Follow Me printing

Overview

With traditional printing you send your document to a specific printer selected from a list. With Follow Me printing you send your document to a virtual 'Follow Me' printer, which adds the document to your personal print jobs list. You then release the print job a real printer of your choosing using your University card.

This solves a number of common printing issues:

  • You do not need to remember which is the nearest printer to you and select it from a long list.
  • If your usual printer is in use or out of order you can release the job at another printer.
  • You can queue up a number of jobs and then print them when convenient, you are not tied to the printer until all your jobs have finished.

Follow Me printing is also known as Push, Pull or Find Me printing.

Printing at BSG

Authenticated users at BSG can access printers in three different ways:

  1. From a BSG managed Apple macOS or Windows computer.

  2. Manually installing drivers onto a personally supplied macOS or Windows computer. NB the user must have administrative rights to this computer.

  3. Web Printing from a personally supplied computer or tablet which doesn't meet the first two conditions.

PaperCut

PaperCut is the print solution software chosen by the BSG. Below is a diagram from their website explaining Follow/Find Me printing.

For ease of use, each BSG printer has a release station attached to it which can only release jobs for that printer. You will see the PaperCut screen on this when you swipe out your print jobs.

All staff and students have a PaperCut account which allows them to view their jobs list online, amongst other functions. To log into your PaperCut account, go to https://print.bsg.ox.ac.uk and log in with your BSG Active Directory account, ie. the username and password you use to log into BSG computers.
