All members of Faculty and Staff with a direct contract with the Blavatnik School of Government will be provided with a computer that meets BSG recommended specification and is supported by the ICT managed desktop / laptop service.
The School is in the process of migrating to a largely mobile computer estate, however we still have a number of desktop computers that meet our recommended specification. If a Staff role or member of Faculty have a particular need for a mobile computer the supporting business case should be made alongside the computer request.

MacBook Air with a 13” screen, 8GB RAM and 256GB Solid State Disk. Users are also supplied with a 24” HD screen, docking station, keyboard and mouse.
We may supply you with a refurbished computer that is less than four years old (dependant on stock).
Users of the Oracle Finance systems (HR and Finance) are supplied with a Dell laptop with a 13” screen, 8GB RAM and 256GB Solid State Disk. Users are also supplied with a 24” HD screen, docking station, keyboard and mouse.
Some Administrative roles undertake activities which require a computer with a different specification, for example higher resolution or larger screens for staff editing video or photos. These can be requested, however please include a brief summary of your needs including a supporting statement. All requests for non-standard specifications must be approved by your Line Manager.

The standard IT Provision for Faculty and Researchers matches that of the Administrative staff. We know however that some members of Faculty may want a higher specification system to support their research and teaching needs, for example, more memory or faster processors for executing statistical analysis.
The Blavatnik School of Government ICT team are happy to arrange a quote for bespoke Faculty needs. We will ask for any expense beyond the cost of a standard laptop and desktop kit to be funded through a contribution from your research allowance (we will ask you to approve any costs before orders are placed.). Please write a brief summary of your needs and the ICT team will respond with a quote.
