Installing and using Keka from the Orchard Software Centre

1. Download and install Keka

  • Open the Orchard Software Centre from the Applications folder or Spotlight search.
  • Search for Keka
  • Click the Install button

2. Open Keka for the first time

  • Open the Applications folder.
  • Click on the icon to open Keka.
  • Two new windows will appear, 'General' and 'Keka'
  • In the 'General' window, click the icon for 'Compression'
  • Change the default format to '7z'. Change other settings as you prefer.

3. Encrypt files

  • With Keka open, select the 7z icon.
  • Enter a password into the 'Password' and 'Repeat' boxes.
  • Drag the file, files, or folder that you wish to encrypt over to the 'Keka' window.

  • A new file will appear with the original file name, appended with the 7z extension.

4. Decrypting files

  • Open Keka, select the 7z icon.
  • Drag the encrypted .7z file to the Keka window

  • Enter the password for the encrypted file.

  • The de-compressed, unencrypted files will appear in the same location as the original 7z file.
